Good Quality Security Lock Options for Your Van
Vans are fairly vulnerable to break-ins, which is a real pain in the neck for any tradesperson. Aside from the damage done, there’s the cost of work lost while you find replacement tools. For a good, easy fix to break-ins, a solid van lock is a sensible choice, and right now there are some great options out there that really do the job.
The MLK736 Masterlock is about as thick, tight and solid as you could want. Part of the battle when it comes to protecting vans is to make sure the thieves are put off from attempting a break in to begin with. This is a 700mm shackle pad lock which sticks out from the surface of the van as clear as day. The plates that fix it to the vehicle are die-cast, and the lock itself consists of a five pin cylinder. Basically even if thieves have handheld cutting cools and prying equipment they’ll have a very tough time indeed getting through this, and probably won’t even bother to try.
Another heavy duty option is the Sterling Steel Shackleless Van Lock from Screwfix. This is a 73mm lock, which is chrome plated and constructed from hardened steel. The hasp and staple set up which fixes it to the van is nickel plated and also made of steel. All in all this makes for a very hardy and almost completely weather resistant lock that won’t let you down on prying and cutting either.
On the more straightforward and less showy side of things you could always opt for an ERA 940-85 Block Lock. These don’t look quite so imposing by any means, but they definitely do the job. They screw onto one door, and block the opening mechanism with a bracket, so they’re small and portable but still really hard to cut or break. You can use it on doors to sheds as well if you want it to double up.
Keeping things safe is part of the job for a tradesperson, and these options make that job a lot easier, so it makes sense to make the investment.
Make sure you’re up to speed with the latest in van security.
