Excitement is definitely in the air for anyone who is planning to go to Daytona Beach week especially since it is only a little more than a month away now. Since Christmas morning, I have been counting down the days until I could don my new pair of riding glasses, get on my motorbike and get riding. But since I live in the northeast my bike hasn’t been out of the garage since early November. I’ve had a couple of months to tinker and get her ready for the 2012 season – which can’t come soon enough for me.

I’ll be heading out on 8 March with a couple of friends and our ladies. Even though I know that I will find it bitterly cold for the first five hours, I will be well wrapped up with warm gloves, face mask and snow mobile suit. By the time Pennsylvania turns into Maryland we should be able to shed the heavy clothes and get into something a little more fitting of Daytona. That’s when the goggles will come off and the new riding glasses will go on. I can’t wait.

I am planning to make a permanent move to Florida one of these days. That’s something else I’m looking forward to. Although I like living in the northeast and have lived here all my life, I don’t like the fact that my riding season is so short. Just like most of my fellow bikers, I like riding all year round. We will definitely only have one car when we finally leave the northeast. In fact, only really foul weather will be able force four wheels under our feet.

Daytona is probably somewhere that most of you will be heading too. Telling stories and catching up with old friends is something that most of us will want to do. But in my case and I’m sure some of yours a few who have passed on will be sorely missed. One thing’s for sure, it should be a great season.

Just remember to ride safe and smart. And if your wife got you a new pair of riding glasses for Christmas, bring them with you!
